“Clickable Take Action” Domains

“Clickable Take Action” Domains
What Are They?
“Clickable Take Action” domains are simply Premium Domains. What is a premium domain? Simply put, just think of premium domains as prime real estate. Just as location is a key determining factor for the value of a piece of property, the location of a website has value as well with not all domains created equal. Premium domains get you more visits just like in real estate a main street location gets you visibility. Premium domains can help you with SEO with domains that contain relevant keywords often ranking higher on search engine results.
- A clickable domain is one that when you read it in a email, text, blog post, or social media it compels you to click. It’s magnetic. When you see the domain (especially in the right context) you click it.
- A take action domain is one that causes you to act now or in the future because it is memorable. You were told about, read about, saw it in a print ad or read it on a sign. You remembered it and you typed it in a browser directly to visit the website.
The Shorter The Better
First off, the shorter and more generic the URL, the more likely it is considered a “premium” domain. So domains like “food.com” or “cars.net” are more valuable than “billysfoodtruck.com” or “donsmithusedcars.net”.
Will They Remember You?
Second, they need to be memorable. “12345.com” might be short and generic but is it memorable? Well, if you’re in Schenectady, NY, then yes, it would be because that is your zip code. Therefore, this domain would be prime for someone looking to market in this area. These domains are filled with generic keywords and make sense to a web searcher.
Keep It Local When You Can
That brings us to our third point: you can have a localized, niche domain and it will still be considered premium. I am writing from St. Louis. In this area domains that start like StLouisMLS.com or StLouisChiropractors.com are considered to be premium domains. SaintLouisMLS.com is also considered premium but to a lesser degree. Why, because most interest users will search for St Louis versus Saint Louis
But for St Louis (and many other large metro areas) that is not all. In the St. Louis area the short acronym is “STL”. That is the airport code and the adopted acroyn for the area. So for example, STLPizza.com is considered a premium domain that is localized and targeted at a subsection of the food industry.
Dot-Com (.com) is King
Lastly, when you can, get a dot-com domain. This is especially true in the United States. Dot-com TLD’s (Top Level Domains) are the most recognized and respected. Dot-com is one of the oldest TLD’s and is used by the majority of established and respected businesses in the US. People are used to typing in .com at the end of a domain name. If you are using a different TLD you may be sending typo traffic to the owner .com for your domain name.

Do I Need One?
Short answer: No. But you may be missing a big opportunity!
Most businesses and professionals have a website with their domain being some form of their business name. For example, the drugstore Walgreens has Walgreens.com. But that should just be the beginning of smart domain marketing.
Think Bigger – Think Multiple Domains
For many savvy businesses however, having multiple domains, especially if they are premium ‘clickable take action ‘ domains, is a smart and effective way to market and promote their business. DrugStore.com and Beauty.com are premium “clickable” domains that Walgreens uses for marketing. As much as your website visitors might use Google or another search engine to find your content, many people still skip the search engine completely and type in a domain name they believe will take them to a relevant website. That domain is probably a premium domain. What will they likely type in? A premium domain. Premium domains are also “magnetic” on search engine results and PPC especially when the domain(keywords) apply to the search term.

Who Has Them?
Short Answer: Anyone. Long Answer: A lot of the gTLD (generic top level domains) were either snatched up years ago or have been purchased at a steep premium by larger corporations since then. But don’t fret! There are still ways for you to get your own so keep reading below!

How Do I Get One?
If you are a local business that has a very geo-targeted audience, you may very well likely be able to find a premium clickable domain that is available to you by registering the URL on any domain registrar. However, there is a good chance that the perfect premium clickable domain name is already taken. If that’s the case, you may still be able to purchase it at a (premium) price!
